LaVerne M. Carlson, 91

LaVerne Minnie Carlson, age 91, of Watertown, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

The funeral service will be Monday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Paul Krentz officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Watertown Public Cemetery.

Casket bearers are Rob Carlson, Chris Carlson, Dr. Lauren Carlson, Shannon Benson, and Chad Benson.

LaVerne was born March 7, 1923, in Delano, the daughter of August and Agnes (Mueller) Lemmerman. She was baptized April 8, 1923, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. Paul Beck; and confirmed April 5, 1936, at the same church by the Rev. Carl Rudolph.

At the age of 13, LaVerne left home and moved to San Francisco to work.

She returned to Minnesota, and was united in marriage to Evans E. Carlson Feb. 10, 1946, by the Rev. W.C. Lohrke.

LaVerne was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, giving her time with the St. Paul’s Ladies Aid. She was also a member of Watertown Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary.

LaVerne loved to camp and fish at her trailer on Long Lake in Richmond. She also enjoyed cleaning and decorating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Evans Carlson; parents August and Agnes Lemmerman; and a brother, Alfred Lemmerman.

LaVerne is survived by her loving family; sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Cushie Carlson of Watertown, and Larry and Kathi Carlson of Apex, NC; daughters and sons-in-law Renee and Kirk Benson of Elbow Lake, and Cindy and Dwayne Atwell of Show Low, AZ; grandchildren Rob Carlson, Chris Carlson, Shannon and Amy Benson, Chad and Carla Benson, Dr. Lauren Carlson, Scott and Jennifer Carlson, Krista and Stewart Avenenti, and Kenny Atwell; and great-grandchildren Devon Benson, Summer Benson, Jake Avenenti, Avery Avenenti, and Emma Atwell.

She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Florence Lemmerman of Maple Plain; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
