Milfred A. Dalchow Obituary – 9/4/2014


Milfred A. Dalchow, “The Christmas Tree Man,” age 91, of Mayer, passed away Thursday Sept. 4, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.

He was born April 19, 1923, in Watertown, the son of Emil and Louise (Dressel) Dalchow.

Milfred was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Clasen May 1, 1946, at the family farm, by Rev. Opperman.

Milfred was very active in the Mayer community, belonging to several organizations such as the city council for a number of years, and serving as mayor for a couple of terms. He was also a member of the Mayer Fire Department, serving as fire chief for a period of that time.

In addition, Milfred served on the church council at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Milfred had several activities that kept him busy, such as fishing, gardening, playing cards, and taking care of all of his Christmas trees customers, making wonderful friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Family meant the world to Milfred; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Louise Dalchow; brother Roy Dalchow; father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Christine Clasen; and brothers-in-law Virgil, Earl, and Joel Clasen.

Milfred is survived by his loving family, wife Gwen; son Bob Dalchow and special friend Gina Sonaglia of Mayer; daughter Peggy (Wally) Moonen of Waconia; grandchildren Shawn and Jackie Dalchow of Mayer, Jay and Jamie Dalchow of Belle Plaine, Ryan and Erin Moonen of Waconia, and Heidi Moonen and Dan Jensen of Waconia; and great-grandchildren Kiley and Morgen Dalchow, Abbie and Laney Dalchow, Ava and Owen Moonen, and Brooklyn Jensen.

He is further survived by sisters and brother-in-law Gladys Clasen of Eden Prairie, Lorena and Linus Remer of Maple Grove, and Verna Graunke of Waconia; brother Leonard Dalchow of Monticello; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Lou Dalchow of Montrose, Laura Dalchow of Buffalo, Joyce and Loren Carlson of Shakopee, Judy Clasen of Waconia, and Roma Clasen of Arizona; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services took place Wednesday Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Marilyn Breckenridge officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the church, and continued Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers were Shawn Dalchow, Jay Dalchow, Ryan Moonen, Heidi Moonen, Pat Tally, and Alex Tally.

Honorary casket bearers were Kiley and Morgen Dalchow, Abbie and Laney Dalchow, Ava and Owen Moonen, and Brooklyn Jensen.
