Evelyne M. Diers, age 76, of Howard Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at the St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born May 23, 1937, in Winsted, to Charles and Elsie (Urbach) Griswold. Evelyne was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian church in Winsted.
It was also here that Evelyne was united in marriage to Gene Diers May 12, 1956. by the Rev. A.J. Kamman. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters: Robin and Connie.
Evelyne and Gene made their home on the family farm in Victor Township, Howard Lake. In addition to the time she spent working on the farm, Evelyne enjoyed gardening and cooking. She also worked for many years at the Super Valu Store in Howard Lake. She enjoyed getting to know many people, and valued their special friendships.
Following the sale of the farm, Evelyne moved to town, where she was able to reside at home until three weeks prior to her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a brother, Albert Griswold.
Evelyne is survived by her children, Robin (Harlan) Kotila, and Connie (Allen) Brandel, both of Cokato; grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Kotila, of Mankato, Kaley Oestreich, of Buffalo, and Kandra Oestreich (fiancé Brandon Lundstrom) of Duluth; and a great-grandson, Liam Kotila.
The funeral service took place Thursday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. Interment followed at St. James Lutheran Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake; and continued Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
