Neil Harlow Emerson, age 77, of Chanhassen, formerly of Cokato, died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, after a four-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer.
A memorial celebration of Neil’s life is planned for Saturday, July 12 at Father Hennepin State Park in Isle. Burial will also be in Isle.
Neil was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Isle, to Oluf and Helen Emerson, the sixth of nine children.
He attended school in Isle, and after graduation, joined the US Navy.
Neil was united in marriage to Frances Ferrera Sept. 17, 1960. This union was blessed with three children; Michael, Richard, and Ann.
Neil attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. He later spent most of his career in computer programming instruction.
Known for his witty sense of humor, Neil will be missed by many. He was dearly loved by his family, relatives, and all his friends, who were fortunate to know him.
Neil is survived by his children, Michael (Joni) Emerson of Houston, TX, Richard (Karin) Emerson of Eden Prairie, Ann Emerson of Brighten, England, and six grandchildren, Anthony, Josiah, Leah, Sophia, Abby, and Maria.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fran; his parents; and brothers Ralph and Dennis.
