Marcella M. Gebhardt, 83

Marcella Marie Gebhardt, age 83, of Howard Lake, entered her eternal home peacefully early Tuesday morning, Sept. 2, 2014, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Camden Township, to Paul and Margaret (Koehler) Latzig.

Marcella was baptized into faith Sept. 6, 1931, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf. She was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism, and confirmed in her Christian faith March 25, 1945, at the same church by the Rev. John W. Meyer.

Marcella was united in holy matrimony to Orlando Gebhardt May 7, 1948, at the St. Mark Lutheran parsonage in New Germany by the Rev. John W. Meyer.

Orlando passed away 10 years ago, but Marcella continued to reside on “the farm” they had purchased 60 years ago, which she loved and cherished.

A faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marcella loved to help in any way she could at any church function that took place.

She loved to garden and share her vegetables with family and friends, and loved to bake and try new recipes, trying them on anyone she could.

Marcella was once employed at Howard Lake-Waverly Public School as a cook and dishwasher. She was presently volunteering at St. Mary’s Care Center, Winsted, where she loved to visit with the residents and their families.

She was known for her laughter and smile, and would go out of her way to help anyone, which made her feel rewarded.

Marcella is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Bob Vinkemeier of Bigfork, MN; son and daughter-in-law Brad and Bonnie Gebhardt of Winsted; grandchildren Delilah and Jay Ownbey, Jon and Erin Narr, Shawn Gebhardt, and Andrew Gebhardt and special friend Meagan Peterson; and great-grandchildren Trevor and Cody Ownbey, and Isaiah Narr.

She is further survived by her sister, Hildegarde Schwartz of Mayer; brothers and sisters-in-law Harold and Marie Latzig of Lester Prairie, Martin and Ruth Ann Latzig of Howard Lake, Roland and Carol Latzig of Norwood/Young America, Lowell and Darlene Latzig of New Germany, Leona Latzig of Waconia, and Cinderella McQuay of Tucson, AZ; step-sister Norma Klaustermeier of Minneapolis; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her husband, Orlando, Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Margaret Latzig; step-mother Selma Latzig; sister Martha Zierman; step-sister Selma Drew; brothers Elmer and Roy Latzig; sisters-in-law Ellen Latzig, Gladys Cohrs, Rosella Engelson, Rosa Gebhardt, and Rose Ann Gebhardt; brothers-in-law Leland Schwartz and Hilbert Ziermann, Roy Gebhardt, Leonard Gebhardt, Christopher Gebhardt, Alex Gebhardt, Ewald Cohrs, Maynard Ehrke, Clifford Wolter, and Joe McQuay; and father- and mother-in-law, Christian and Anna Gebhardt.

Funeral services took place Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Mark Loder officiated, Molly Loder served as organist, and music for the service was also provided by Carrie Knott and Michelle Powell. Interment followed at the Winsted Public Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Delilah Ownbey, Jon Narr, Shawn Gebhardt, Andrew Gebhardt, Jay Ownbey, and Jeff Schwartz. Honorary casket bearers were Trevor Ownbey and Cody Ownbey.

The Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted served the family. Online condolences may be made to www.chilsonfuneralhome.com.
