Edward J. Gibney, age 96, of Oakland, CA, formerly of Dassel, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014.
He was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Dassel.
Ed served in the Army, both as a cook, and as a tugboat engineer in charge of a floating 30-ton crane used in Antwerp to off-load Allied equipment to defend the Battle of the Bulge December 1944.
After the war, Ed worked in the building trades, then in movie management, and as a projectionist.
He married Audrey (nee Ditmer).
One child, Ed Jr., born in 1944, brought Ed Sr. four grandchildren and, to date, four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services have taken place. Edward is interred at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, CA, with his wife, Audrey, who preceded him in death, August 2012.
