Darleen Emma Gutknecht, age 80, of Buffalo, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014.
She was born Sept. 29, 1933, in Winsted Township, the daughter of William and Emma (Litschke) Roos. Darleen was baptized at her parent’s home Oct. 1, 1933, by Pastor Paul Eckert; and confirmed March 30, 1947, by Pastor R.A. Ritz at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Her confirmation verse was 2 Cor. 5:15 KJV “And that he died for all that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”
Darleen graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1951.
She was joined in holy marriage with Walter Gutknecht July 1, 1979, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church - Pelican Lake, where she remained a member.
Darleen is survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Carl Gutknecht, Florence Gutknecht, and Lillian and Edwin Duff; nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 2006; brother Reuben Roos in 2014; parents William and Emma Roos; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Arthur and Doris Gutknecht, Roberta Gutknecht, Elroy Gutknecht, Elmer Gutknecht, and Richard and Dorothy Gutknecht.
The funeral service took place Saturday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo with Pastor Stephen A. Smith officiating. Karen Davis, Darleen’s niece, was the organist. Hymns included “Softly and Tenderly” and “Amazing Grace.” Interment followed at the Immanual Lutheran Cemetery.
There was visitation from 10 a.m., prior to the funeral service.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
