Lorena Elise Barlau-Henning, age 97, of Holland, MI, and formerly of New Germany, passed away Friday May 9, 2014, in Michigan.
She was born June 10, 1916, the daughter of Otto and Martha (Lemke) Barlau.
Lorena was united in marriage to Gerhard L. Henning Sept. 10, 1936, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theo Rolf.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, Lorena’s passions were embroidery and quilting with her sisters. She also enjoyed baking and trying new recipes, gardening, and flowers.
Lorena was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Martha Barlau; an infant son; another son, Dennis Henning; her husband, Gerhard Henning; brothers Hubert and Walter Barlau; and a sister, Edna Barlau-Mielke.
She is survived by her loving family: daughter and son-in-law Charles and Marilyn Bengtson of Holland, MI; grandchildren Debra Baker of Byron, MI, Stacy (Pete) Lounsbury of Spring Lake, MI, and Chad Bengtson of Holland, MI; great-grandchildren Dakota, Jenna and Dylan Baker, and Evan and Kristen Lounsbury; sister Lyla Quaas of Mayer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service took place Friday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiating, followed by interment at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Serving as casket bearers were Chad Bengtson, Pete Lounsbury, Dakota Baker, Evan Lounsbury, Dylan Baker, Keith Quaas, and Kevin Quaas.
