Richard L. Herrmann, 66

Richard L. “Rich” Herrmann, age 66, of Norwood Young America, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center.

He was born June 23, 1947, in Glencoe, the son of George Jr. and Verona (Jenneke) Herrmann. Richard was baptized July 6, 1947, at Church of Peace in Norwood, confirmed at the same church March 26, 1961.

Richard was united in marriage to Carol J. Wolter May 8, 1971, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Young America.

A loving husband, dad, and grandpa, Richard enjoyed being with his family, going camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, sports, and playing cards.

He worked at Wendorf Implement and Kraemer’s Mobile before serving in the United States Army from 1966-1968. During this time, he completed a tour of duty in Vietnam.

After returning from service, Rich decided to attend Lee’s Barber School, and graduated in 1971. He then opened Rich’s Barber Shop, and enjoyed visiting with his customers while cutting their hair for 43 years.

One of his greatest loves was driving school bus, which he also did for 43 years.

Rich served his community by being a member of the Young America Fire Department for 20 years, and served as chief for eight of those years. He served as cemetery sexton, usher, and bus driver for St. John’s Lutheran Church, as well.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Herrmann Jr.; and mother-in-law Erna Wolter.

Richard is survived by his loving family; wife Carol Herrmann of Norwood Young America; sons and daughters-in-law Troy and Julie Herrmann of Cologne, Brian Herrmann of Carver, and Matt and Erin Herrmann of Lester Prairie; and grandchildren Logan, Kylie, and Kassi Herrmann, Caiden, Bennett, and Teagan Herrmann.

He is further survived by his mother, Verona Herrmann of Norwood Young America; brother Robert Herrmann of Austin, TX; father-in-law Ardell Wolter of Norwood Young America; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Maynard and Barb Rolf of Pelican Rapids, Lois and Jerry Tiggelaar, Lynette and Dennis Feltmann, all of Norwood Young America, and Susan and Bert Wagner of Stewart; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Thursday June 19 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, with the Rev. David Winter officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, June 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, and continued Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Serving as casket bearers were Rich’s nephews, Chad Feltmann, Chris Feltmann, Corey Feltmann, Alan Rolf, Dan Rolf, Mark Rolf, and Jeff Wagner.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were the NYA Fire Department, and Central Public School bus drivers.
