Helen M. Huser, 99

Helen Maria (Kramer) Huser, age 99, of Waconia, and formerly of Lester Prairie, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society in Waconia.

She was born May 4, 1915, in Young America Township, Carver County, the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Buckentin) Kramer. Helen was baptized as an infant May 16, 1915, by the Rev. A. Baumhaefner; and was confirmed in her faith as a youth March 24, 1929, by the Rev. M. F. Abraham, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America.

Helen attended school through the eighth grade at St. John’s Lutheran Parochial School in Young America, and graduated from Central High School in Norwood Young America with the class of 1933. She continued her education, receiving teacher training at the same school in 1934.

Helen was united in marriage to Marvin Huser June 11, 1938, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. They first lived on the family farm in rural Lester Prairie; and in 1977, Helen and Marvin moved into the city of Lester Prairie.

Their marriage was blessed with three children, David, Joel and Caroline. Helen and Marvin shared over 59 years of marriage, until Marvin passed away March 31, 1998.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Helen taught school for five years in Carver and McLeod counties, and helped Marvin on the family farm.

She was an active member at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, where she was a member of the women’s group, and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school.

Helen enjoyed playing cards, dancing, traveling, quilting, and crocheting. She loved caring for her family, and cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Helen is survived by her children: David Huser and his wife, Arla, of Lester Prairie, Joel Huser and his fiancée, Gayle Parizino, of Andover, and Caroline Birkholz and her husband, Donn, of Lester Prairie; and grandchildren Eric Huser and his wife, Janean; Paul Huser and his wife, Ann; Paula Heimerl and her special friend, Dan; Tim Johns and his wife, Brenda; Steve Johns and his wife, Erin; Brian Huser and his special friend, Emma; Jenny Antilla and her husband, Mike; Donavon Birkholz and his wife, Elissa; and Dane Birkholz and his special friend, Jessica.

Helen is further survived by great-grandchildren Rachel, Ethan, Alex, Ben, Jacob, Jessica, Samantha, Lincoln, Kirsti, Mackenzie, Nicholas, Emma, Reese, Jayden, Cole, Tanner, and Brynn; great-great-grandson, Harrison; sister-in-law Ruth Kramer of Waconia; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband, Marvin, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Bertha Kramer; a grandson, Marc Huser; daughter-in-law Linda Huser; and siblings Olga Halvorson, Harold Kramer, Hilton Kramer, and Laura Hatleli.

Memorial services took place Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, followed by interment at the Bergen Cemetery in Bergen Township, Lester Prairie. Pastor Bethany Nelson officiated at the services; Nancy Buckentine as the organist; and soloist Tim Smith performed “In The Garden” and “Borning Cry.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “Abide With Me.”

Honorary urn bearers were Eric Huser, Paul Huser, Brian Huser, Jenny Antilla, Donavon Birkholz, and Dane Birkholz.
