Jerry J. Jerabek, 93

Jerry James Jerabek, age 93, of Lester Prairie, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Service Long Term Care.

He was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Hutchinson, the son of Charlie and Elsie (Bell) Jerabek. Jerry was baptized, and confirmed in his faith May 19, 1946, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in St. Paul.

He attended District 44 school in Hutchinson until the eighth grade, and then attended the University of Minnesota Farm School, graduating in March of 1939.

Jerry entered active military service in the United States Army Nov. 14, 1942, receiving an honorable discharge Oct. 23, 1945.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Brecht Oct. 11, 1941, in St. Paul. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Alan and Susan.

Jerry and Dorothy moved to Lester Prairie in 1963. They shared 69 years of marriage, until Dorothy passed away June 4, 2011.

Jerry had numerous jobs over the years, mainly as a John Deere tractor mechanic at Larson Implement in Stewart, a welder, tool and die maker, and farmer.

He was a member at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe.

A kind man, Jerry loved people, and was a friend to many. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making baptism boxes for people at his church, along with helping with the church remodeling. He also enjoyed flowers and gardening, and loved the time spent with his family and friends.

When he needed assistance with his daily care, Jerry became a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Aug. 18, 2012.

Jerry is survived by his children, Alan Jerabek and his wife, Sandy, of Hutchinson, and Susan Ide and her husband, Wallace, of Lester Prairie; and grandchildren Scott Jerabek and his wife, Sally; Tammy Mathews and her husband, Kevin; Todd Ide, Sherry Ekstrom and her husband, Daryl; Tricia Gueningsman and her husband, Andy; Stacey Harpel and her special friend, Mike; and Shannon Jerabek and his wife, Michele.

Jerry is further survived by 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Stella Jane Rauch, and Ellen Brecht; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services took place Monday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment at Bohemian National Cemetery in Silver Lake. Pastor Katherine Rood officiated at the service, and the organist was Twyla Kirkeby. Congregational hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Old Rugged Cross,” and “Rock of Ages.”

Military honors were provided by Glencoe American Legion Post 95.

Casket bearers were Lowell Brecht, Bernard Brecht, Steven Brecht, Todd Ide, Scott Jerabek, and Shannon Jerabek.
