Hubert ‘Hubie’ Kelzer, 90

Hubert U., “Hubie,” Kelzer, age 90, of Waconia, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia, with Father Bennet Tran as celebrant of the Mass. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Waconia at a later date.

Hubie was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Dahlgren Township, Chaska, the son of Raymond and Genevieve (Schmieg) Kelzer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia.

Hubert was united in marriage to Ramona H. Splettstoesser Jan. 3, 1948, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia by Father Albert Heer.

Hubie farmed for 18 years, and then worked at Advanced Machine for 23 years. In retirement, he still enjoyed working on the farm.

He spent 17 years on the Waconia City Council, and was a member of the Waconia Knights of Columbus.

For 25 years, Hubie played Town Team Baseball. He enjoyed fishing, playing the accordion, and making wishing wells.

Hubie was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Genevieve Kelzer; twin sister Hildegard Zwack; sisters Jeanette Arndt, Lyra Heath, Sister Joann Kelzer, and Ardis Kelzer; brother Kilian Kelzer; step granddaughter Jennifer LaMora; nephews Larry Arndt, Joseph Schmid, Dick Guethling; and niece Jeanne Clapp.

He is survived by his loving family; wife Ramona; children Michael (Sharon) Kelzer of Austin, Raymond Kelzer of Waconia, Marsha Kelzer of Carver, Kevin (Lorie) Kelzer of Waconia, Linda Kelzer of Carver, and Brian (Suzanne) Kelzer of Delano; and grandchildren Jeffery (Katie) Kelzer, Stephanie (Brian) Landkammer, Brenda (Michael) Haynes, Jonathon Kelzer, Wendy (Scott) Harmon, Rebecca (Joe) Borchardt, Emily (Brian) Johnson, Lacey Ahlbrecht, Jennifer (Jarrod) Herr, Julie Kelzer, Daniel Kelzer (significant other Ashleigh Wiggins), Stephen Kelzer, Nicholas Kelzer, Lyndsay Kelzer (fiancé Josh Stevens), and Laryssa Kelzer.

Hubie is further survived by great-grandchildren Zachary Kelzer, Kirstie Kelzer, Dakota Kelzer, Brittany Kelzer, Adam Haynes, Kyrstal Kelzer, Benjamin Haynes, Andrew Haynes, Seth Kelzer, Marissa Kelzer, Catrina Herr, Kelsey Haynes, Katelin Mulville, Serena Kelzer, Ashley Kelzer, Ryder Holmquest, Cadence Kelzer, Anna Herr, Logan Kelzer, Kaiden Landkammer, Rylie Wiggins, Kaley Johnson, Austin Landkammer, Alexa Johnson, Danica Borchardt, Madison Borchardt, and Kyra Camp; great-great granddaughter Asia Mai; brothers Dennis (Marilyn) Kelzer, and Leon (Marilyn) Kelzer, all of Waconia; sisters Erna (Donald) Gallagher of Wisconsin, Genrose Schmid of Waconia, and Eunice Vinkemeier of Chaska; sister-in-law Alice Kelzer of Watertown; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
