David R. Licht, age 70, of Cokato, passed away in Scottsdale, AZ, Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, of COPD and emphysema.
David is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Ann (Illies) Licht. “We had it all, just like Bogie and Bacall,” with their blended family of D. Daniel Licht, Shannon (Licht) Degener (Randy), John Ostdiek (Donna), and Daniel Ostdiek (Teresa).

Born at home in Lowden, IA, David graduated from Lowden High School in 1962, served in the National Guard, earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1967, and his master’s degree in urban planning in 1969, both from the University of Iowa.
David’s city planning career spanned more than 30 years, as he was employed by the City of Minneapolis, and the University of Minnesota, before founding Northwest Associated Consultants, merging with Midwest Planning, and later re-establishing as NAC.
He served many communities, both advising and exasperating various council members. He also enjoyed making his life-long hobby a parallel business.
David was known as a straight-shooter, who enjoyed the outdoors with his Goldens, the sunshine and saguaros of Arizona, the Hawkeyes, a good political discussion, history, music, his friends, and his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin; mother Eleanor; and brother Larry of Lowden, IA.
A memorial service will take place in Minnesota in the spring.
Memorial donations can be made in David’s name to RAGOM, a Golden Retriever rescue organization in Minnesota.
