Anthony M. Mechtel, 54

Anthony Mark “Tony” Mechtel, age 54, of Green Isle, passed away Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at the University Of Minnesota Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 27, 1959, in St. Cloud, the son of Januarius and Mary Ann (Poppler) Mechtel. Tony was baptized as an infant; and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia.

He was a graduate of Waconia High School.

Tony was united in marriage with Jackie Fritz July 20, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waconia. The couple has made their home in rural Green Isle.

Tony was handy and very creative. He had worked in construction, for Car-Co Auto Parts, for Waconia Manufacturing, and for the Ralph Molnau family. His favorite, by far, was his career at Waconia Manufacturing, which he had to retire from due to his health.

Tony enjoyed wood working, welding, working with stainless steel, and building just about anything. He never turned down a chance to go fishing. He loved music and his collection of 13 guitars, and was in the process of building his own guitar. He very much enjoyed being part of the guitar choir at St. Joseph’s.

Tony will be remembered for his humble and positive personality, and that he always had a great sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Januarius and Mary Ann Mechtel; grandparents Leonard and Regina Mechtel, and Everard and Dorothy Poppler; brother Timothy Mechtel; nephew Shawn Cockerham; and father-in-law Ronald Fritz.

Tony is survived by his loving family: wife Jackie Mechtel of Green Isle; son Anthony Mechtel II of Blaine; grandson Richard Mechtel; sisters and brothers Judy Mechtel of New Germany; Charles (Sue) Mechtel of Green Isle, Rebecca (Mark) Schuettpelz of Norwood Young America, Renee Bosma (special friend Troy Pederson) of Cologne, and Victoria (Jeffrey) Wildung of Cologne; and mother-in-law Eileen Fritz of Waconia.

He is further survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law Julie and Dan Goetze of Waconia; nieces and nephews Jason Mechtel, Kristina Mechtel, Gary Mechtel, Jack Wells, Amber Bosma, Ryan and Lisa Goetze, and Amber and Erik Liepke; great nieces and nephews Ryan Jr., Thyra, Tyson, Ayva and Lily Goetze; aunts, uncles, other relatives, and many friends.

A memorial service took place Saturday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with the Rev. Phil Wagner officiating. There was a gathering of family and friends at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment was in the church cemetery.
