May Edith Olmstead, age 97, of Litchfield, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.
She was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Ellsworth Township, Meeker County, the daughter of James and Flora (Montgomery) Olmstead.
May grew up and lived on the south shore of Lake Washington, and graduated as the salutatorian from the Litchfield High School.
After high school, she was a member of the WAC (Women’s Army Corps) for a year before being discharged from the service.
She enjoyed spending time listening to music, was an accomplished artist, and loved nature, simply enjoying a drive through the countryside, or sitting outside listening to the birds and enjoying the fall colors.
May is survived by her sister, Betty Johnson of Dassel; a brother-in-law, Robert Shirley of Denver, CO; along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Ethel Zepplin, and Kathryn Shirley.
The funeral service took place Friday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, with the Rev. Steven Olson officiating. Interment followed at the Dassel Community Cemetery.
There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
