Margie Bernice Wright Onstott, age 94, of Montrose, slipped away to be with her beloved Lord and late family members, and friends Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014.
She was born June 4, 1920, in Montrose, the ninth of 10 children born to John Wesley and Clara Cecelia (Mumm) Wright; and a granddaughter to George M. Wright and Mary S. (Hainor) Wright.
While she was blessed with small town charm, it was not an easy road, as she lost many comforts, including the loss of her father, her youngest brother Jackie, and her mother all before her 14th birthday. She was lovingly guided by her older siblings, Ernest “Tib,” Gladys “Glady,” Blanche “Jim,” Evelyn “Ev,” Bessie, Elsie, Art, Mary, and extended family, into adulthood.
A Montrose High School graduate, Margie attended Minnesota School of Business, and worked at several places before accepting the role of a military wife and mother July 11, 1943, joining into marriage with Edwin C. Onstott. To this union were born Jack Lee, Vicki Claire (who tragically lost her life at 11 years of age in 1960), and Susan Jane.
After Edd retired from service in late 1962, they returned to Montrose, where Margie lived to her last day, happiest when she immersed herself once more in community and service to others.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of Montrose United Methodist Church, as well as a member of Wright County Post 1901 VFW Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, Sunday school and choirs, Girl/Boy Scouts, and a volunteer of many hours with various groups in Montrose and Wright County.
Humbleness and a wonderful sense of humor were gifts she shared with all. Many with miss her offering coffee, food, and conversation at Red’s Café and community functions.
Margie is survived by her children, Jack, and Sue (John); grandchildren Vince, Kris, Joe, Kim, Megan, Chelsea, Chris and Jeremy; great-grandchildren Jake, Madison O., Vinnie, Milo, Everett, Dillon, Destiny, Autumn, Madison S., and their loved ones; many nieces and nephews, cousins and their families, plus a host of friends and community members.
Funeral services took place Friday, Aug. 29 at Montrose United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. with Pastor Cheryl M. Goode officiating. Interment followed at the Wright Cemetery in Montrose.
Visitation was Thursday, Aug. 28 at the church from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and continued Friday one hour prior to the services.
Honorary casket bearers were the Montrose United Methodist Women, Wright County VFW and Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.
Casket bearers were Rodger Hessedal, Gary Benson, Tony Daniels, Clayton Prestidge, Willie Bauernschmitt, Gary Theis, and Roger Vanderlinde.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
