William Lester Peel, age 85, of California, formerly of Dassel, peacefully passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, surrounded by his son and daughter and their families.
Bill, the son of Lester and Margaret Peel, was born May 15, 1929, in Dassel. Bill’s parents were owners of the Universal Lab business and building in Dassel.
Bill graduated from Dassel High School in 1947, and from the University of Minnesota in 1953, with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.
He met his wife of 48 years, Lorraine Ryan, while in school, and they married Aug. 16, 1952. They moved to southern California, then to Lafayette, CA, and then later to Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. After Lorraine passed away in 2001, Bill moved to Walnut Creek, CA to be closer to his daughter and son.
Bill spent his entire career working for Chevron Oil Company.
He loved his church and was involved in the church choir for many years.
Bill also enjoyed traveling, golfing with his friends, and spending time at his Sea Ranch home on the coast in northern California, with his wife, family, and grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Susan, who passed away in 2010; and a younger sister, Mary Margaret Rindahl, who passed away Jan. 21, 2014.
He is survived by his son, Gregg Peel and Gregg’s wife Laurie of Danville, CA, their children Kristen and her husband Jim Herzbrum and son James; and son Michael Peel and his wife Holli, and son Micah;
Bill’s daughter, Laurel Peel Baer, and her husband Timothy Baer, of Walnut Creek, CA, and their daughters, Camille and Shannon;
Bill’s daughter Susan’s children, Colleen of Georgia, James and his wife Brittney, and their children, daughters Olivia and Jewel, and son Robert and daughter Crystal, of Las Vegas, NV;
Bill’s sister Mary’s sons Eric Rindahl and Bruce Rindahl and their families.
There will be a family gathering at the Sea Ranch to return Bill to a place he loved so much.
