Joni Lynn Rahier, age 45, of Cokato, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at the Hennepin County Medical Center, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born May 1, 1969, in Minneapolis, to Glen Arneson and Virginia (Carlson). Joni was baptized, and lived in Hanover.
At the age of 5, in 1974, she moved with her family to Ross, MN (north of Roseau). Joni was confirmed at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Ross.
She graduated from Roseau High School in 1987, and later attended the Detroit Lakes Technical School.
Joni and Ron Rahier were married for many years.
Joni had worked as a salesperson for Polaris Industries. She also lived in Fargo, Shakopee, and Golden Valley, before moving to Cokato, where she worked as the co-manager of the Cokato Dollar General for many years.
Joni loved many sports in high school, was a cheerleader, and loved Rams Hockey. She also enjoyed her yearly trips home to the Roseau County Fair. Snowmobiling, camping, and spending time with her family were also things she enjoyed.
Joni will be remembered as a happy person with a beautiful smile.
She is survived by her father, Glen (Donna) Arneson of Thief River Falls; sister, Sheri (Matt) Stifter of Winsted; special friend, Ricky Villanueva of Cokato; nephews and niece, Nikolas, Jordan and Kailey; step-siblings, Dean, David, and Daniel Nelson, and Dawn Ellis; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia, in 2000.
Funeral services took place Saturday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church in rural Roseau. There was visitation Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau. Interment was at the Concordia Cemetery.
