MaryAnn Hamnes Rakke, age 82, of Greeley, CO, formerly of Cokato, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Wind Crest Nursing, a facility in Colorado.
She was born May 17, 1932, in Willmar, to Olaf and Irene (Loven) Hamnes.
MaryAnn grew up on a farm in Pennock, MN, and lived there until she married Jewell (Jay) Rakke of Granite Falls.
They lived in Cokato in the 1950s, where Jay worked for Carlton Lee as a linotype operator for the paper, and MaryAnn worked as secretary at the high school. Their twins were born in the Cokato hospital in 1956.
The family moved to Colorado in 1964, and eventually ended up in Greeley, CO.
MaryAnn was very involved in the Sons of Norway organization, and loved and embraced every aspect of her heritage. She was also very musical, and put her talents to use by teaching piano lessons and singing in community choirs, as well as the choir at her church. She was very involved in many aspects of worship life at the church she attended.
MaryAnn is survived by her three children: Carla (Jerry) McWillams, Cathi (Rick) Thelen, and Jim Rakke; sisters Sheryl (Dan) Faust of Dassel, and Ila Jean Perkins of Burleson, TX; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; an uncle, Ardell Loven of Willmar; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay; and her son, Jon-Eric Rakke.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greeley, CO.
