Walter “Wally” Eilert Randt, age 77, of Howard Lake, passed away suddenly Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at his home.
He was born Feb. 14, 1937, in Granite Falls, to Eilert and Ann Randt.
Wally was united in marriage to Wanda Randt May 4, 1959. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Dawn and Lisa. Nephew Jeffrey was also a special part of their lives together.
Wally spent 30 years working as a diesel mechanic for Super Valu, and he spent his retirement years working as the resident manager of Shoreline Commons in Howard Lake.
In his spare time, he loved to do woodwork, and made many heirlooms for his family.
Wally was especially proud of his grandchildren, and was blessed to have two “practice” granddaughters, Amanda Thompson and Heather Kachel. Later, he spoiled his own grandchildren, Cadie Risser, Mitchell Ward, and Megan Ward.
Wally is survived by his daughters, Dawn Ward and husband Jay of Ramsey, and Lisa Risser and husband Bob of Buffalo; nephew Jeffrey Kachel and wife Denise of Wisconsin; and grandchildren Amanda, Heather, Cadie, Mitchell and Megan.
He is further survived by brothers John, George, Jimmy, Dale, and Lee, brother-in law Ray Ristow; sisters-in-law Ruth, Alice, Joyce, Virginia, Margaret, Elaine, and Gayle; and beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eilert and Ann; beloved wife Wanda; brothers Harry, Bernard, Fred, Harm, and Kenneth; several sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
A memorial service took place Saturday, June 21 at 4 p.m. at the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, with a gathering of friends, relatives, and family two hours prior to the service.
A luncheon followed at the community room of the building Walter managed, Shoreline Commons in Howard Lake.
