Reuben William Roos, 82, of Buffalo, formerly of Lester Prairie, passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.
He was born May 2, 1932, in Winsted Township, the son of William and Emma (Litschke) Roos. Reuben was baptized as an infant May 5, 1932, by the Rev. Theo Rolf at his family’s home; and was confirmed in his faith as a youth April 14, 1946, by the Rev. R. A. Ritz at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Reuben received his education in Lester Prairie.
He entered active military service in the United States Army Dec. 17, 1953, and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Reuben received an Honorable Discharge July 22, 1955.
Reuben made his home on the family farm in rural Lester Prairie, where he raised dairy and beef cattle, but his real love was planting and harvesting the crops.
He also worked for Green Giant in Winsted.
Reuben was a member at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. He served as a supervisor for Winsted Township, and was a past member of the Lester Prairie American Legion Post 463.
Reuben had the honor of being voted the “Outstanding Young Farmer” in 1958.
A patient man, Reuben loved people and was a friend to many. He enjoyed Case tractors, antique machinery, attending auctions and farm shows, deer hunting, fishing, old time music, and later in life, Reuben started gardening.
While living at Lake Ridge Care Center, he enjoyed woodworking, going on the pontoon rides, bus rides, and men’s luncheons. Reuben loved the time spent with his family, friends, and dog, “Lucky.”
Reuben is survived by his sister, Darleen Gutknecht of Buffalo; special friends, Allen and Lisa Stender of Lester Prairie, Spenser Stender and his son, Liam, of Lake Park, and Rachel Stender of Lester Prairie; cousins; and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Roos; brother-in-law Walter Gutknecht; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
The funeral service took place Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Lynn Mueller was the organist. Congregational hymns were “I Am But A Stranger Here,” “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Life High The Cross.” Military honors were provided by Lester Prairie American Legion Post 463.
Interment will be Tuesday, June 24 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
There was visitation at the church from 9 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.
