Caroline B. Salonek, age 90, of Buffalo, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at Cottagewood in Buffalo.
Caroline was born April 14, 1924 in Buffalo, to Herman and Rose (Rancour) Otten.
She married Harold Salonek May 9, 1944.
They owned and operated the Owl Club in Montrose, and Harold’s Club in Waverly.
Caroline retired from the Wright County Sheriff’s Department, where she worked for many years as a cook for the jail.
She truly enjoyed babysitting for her neighbors in Montrose, especially “rocking the babies.”
Caroline enjoyed visiting with people, and with her family and friends. She was a devout Catholic.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; an infant son; grandson, Adam Berthiaume; granddaughter, Penny Salonek; son-in-law, Raymond Berthiaume; sisters, Florence Rasset and Gladys Galvin; brother, Francis Otten; brothers-in-law, Floyd Rasset, Thomas Galvin, Tony Poirier; and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Otten and Mary Otten.
She is survived by her children, Ken (Judy) Salonek, Ruth Ann (Lowell) Rolfzen, Jerry (Betty) Salonek, Kathy (Ed) Walker, Bill (Robin Phillips) Salonek, Larry (fiancé, Jennifer Volk) Salonek; 30 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Vernon Otten and Donald Otten; brother-in-law, Robert Johnson; and sisters-in-law, Elaine Otten, Doris Johnson, and Maryann Poirier.
Mass of Christian burial took place Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. Visitation took place Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, and one hour prior to Mass at the church Thursday. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly.
Funeral arrangements were with The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.
