Lois K. Schmidt Obituary – 4/17/2014


Lois Kathleen Schmidt, age 84, of Cokato, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Buffalo Hospital.

She was born April 3, 1930, in Maple Lake, the daughter of Emery and Hildegard Wurm Starkey.

Lois was formerly employed at General Mills, and at Lakedale Telephone Company.

She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.

Lois is survived by her children: Patty Gabbert of Howard Lake, Mary (Duane) Melquist of Cokato, Donnie (Shelly) Hansch of Baxter, Susan Johnson of Buffalo, and John (Shannon) Schmidt of Ramsey; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers Jim Starkey of Nisswa, and Tom (Sandy) Starkey of Monticello; a sister, Delores Ridley of Spokane, WA; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by husbands: Ralph Akins and Roderic “Tony” Schmidt; her parents; a son, David Akins; a daughter, Barbara Etteldorf; sons-in-law Paul Gabbert, Jay Johnson, and Jerry Etteldorf; great-grandsons Brandon and Dylan Gabbert; sister-in-law Laurie Starkey; and brother-in-law Bud Ridley.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, April 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly with Father Kenneth O’Hotto as the celebrant. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale.

There was visitation Monday, April 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Casket bearers were Damon Melquist, Justin Gabbert, Jordan Johnson, Dillon Schmidt, David Starkey, and Barin Hansch.
