Orlyn V. “Buddy” Schmidt, age 75, of Watertown, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
He was born Jan. 25, 1939, in Watertown, the son of Frederick and Lenora (Roepke) Schmidt. Orlyn was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Watertown Township.
Orlyn was united in marriage to Ann K. Maass Nov. 4, 1958, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Watertown Twp.
A kind and loving person, Orlyn always put his children and grandchildren first. He had a soft spot for his great-grandson, Payton.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes, going camping, fishing, and throwing poker parties.
Orlyn was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; son Michael Schmidt; parents Frederick and Lenora Schmidt; and sister JoAnn Schmidt.
He is survived by his loving family; children Todd Schmidt of Albertville, Kim Plocher of Watertown, and Terry Schmidt of Minneapolis; grandchildren Justin, Ashley, Cody and Alysia; great-grandson Payton; brothers and sisters-in-law Linus and Beverly Schmidt of Watertown, and Ronald and Joyce Schmidt of Maple Plain; sister Joyce Sheffield of Wyoming; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Donald Eder of Waconia, Bonnie and Eugene Grimm of Waconia, and Randy and Joan Maass of Norwood Young America; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Thursday, June 26 at 2 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. There was a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service.
