Elroy Herbert Schmidt, age 72, of Victoria, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
He was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Glencoe, the son of Herbert and Johanna (Horstmann) Schmidt. Elroy grew up in Bongards, and had lived in Faribault and Jordan prior to moving to Victoria.
Elroy enjoyed listening to music, attending church services, fishing, rides in the pontoon, going for walks, and watching sports, especially the Twins and Vikings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Johanna Schmidt; and nephew Bob Fuglsang.
Elroy is survived by his loving family: sisters Geri Schmidt of Chaska, and Connie Thaemert of New Germany; nieces and nephews Rich (Julie) Fuglsang of Champlin, Tabitha (Karl) Monroe of Green Isle, Jason (Steph) Schmidt of New Germany, Justin (Amanda) Thaemert of Gaylord, Deanna (James Peterson) Thaemert, and Corey Thaemert, all of Norwood Young America; eight great nieces and nephews; uncle Art (Beverly) Schmidt of Norwood Young America; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Friday, Sept, 12 at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia with Fr. Bob White as officiant. There was a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service. Interment was in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Winsted.
