Marion G. Schwartz Obituary – 3/8/2014


Marion Gertrude (Tesch) Schwartz, age 93, of Lester Prairie, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at St. Mary’s Garden Home in Winsted.

She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Hollywood Township, Carver County, the daughter of Harris H. and Gertrude C. (Gongoll) Tesch. Marion was baptized in the Christian faith as an infant, June 12, 1921, by the Rev. R. M. Mueller at her parent’s home; and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, in 1934, by the Rev. Elmer Bauer at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mayer.

Marion graduated from Watertown High School.

She furthered her education by attending Buffalo Teachers College in Buffalo, earning a teaching degree. She taught all eight grades in a one-room country school house between Winsted and Watertown.

Marion was united in marriage to Norman O. Schwartz May 9, 1943, in Hudson, WI. Marion and Norman made their home in Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Judith and John.

Marion and Norman shared over 43 years of marriage, until Norman passed away March 23, 1987.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Marion was a bookkeeper in Norman’s implement and manufacturing business, located in Lester Prairie, until Norman’s death in 1987. She then volunteered at Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, and also helped with St. Peter’s Lutheran Church preschool program.

Marion was currently an active member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. She had also been a member at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday school, and sang in the church choir.

Marion enjoyed her flower garden, playing piano and electric organ, and singing in the choir. She loved music and playing duets with her brother.

She cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Marion is survived by her daughter, Judith “Judi” Luehrs and her husband, Alan, of Lester Prairie; son John Schwartz of Chicago, IL; grandson Darin Luehrs and his wife, Jodi, of Champlin; granddaughter Denise Johnson and her husband, Ed, of Sartell; and great-grandchildren Samuel and Jensen Luehrs, Maren Buss, and Eva and Isaak Johnson.

She is further survived by a sister, Marilyn Anderson of Carol Stream, IL; brothers Earl Tesch of Watertown, and John Tesch and his wife, Judy, of New Lisbon, WI; a sister-in-law, Ruth Schwartz of Waconia; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

In addition to her husband, Norman, Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Harris and Gertrude Tesch; an infant sister, Lorraine Tesch; great-grandson Isaac Luehrs; sisters-in-law Iona Tesch, Hilda Schmalz, Helen Roepke, and Marcy Schwartz; and brothers-in-law Philip Anderson, Gilbert Schwartz, Elmer Schwartz, Alois Schmalz, and Eldor Roepke.

Funeral services took place Friday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, followed by interment at the church cemetery.The Rev. Travis Loeslie officiated at the services. Organist was Yvonne Schuette. Congregational hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Amazing Grace,” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”

Casket bearers were Alan Otto, Darin Luehrs, Samuel Luehrs, James Mosley, Ronald Hein, and Thomas Anderson.
