Duane Matt Smith, age 86, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, in hospice care at Cokato Manor.
He was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Webster, SD.
Duane resided in Chanhassen for over 50 years.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Hopkins.
Duane’s hobbies included woodworking, and drinking vitamin W. He loved clocks, which he made and collected.
Duane will be missed greatly by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Jean, with whom he just celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Duane is also survived by his sons, Ron (Cindy) of Akron, OH, Roger of Canton, SD, and Todd (Trudi) of Cokato; grandsons Jarid (Kezia) of Rochester, and Nathan (Brittney) of Sioux Falls, SD, and their daughter Charlotte; and step grandchildren Angela (Greg) Swanson and their children, Madilyn, Brylee, and Emily of Otsego, and Tara Storts of St. Louis Park.
A celebration of Duane’s life took place Thursday, May 15 at 1 p.m. at the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, with interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. There was visitation for one hour prior to the celebration.
