George M. Vanderlinde, Sr., age 92, of St. Bonifacius, passed away Tuesday Sept. 9, 2014, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
He was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Watertown, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Geyen) Vanderlinde. George was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius.
He was united in marriage to Anna Mae “Pat” Hesse Aug. 20, 1946, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Chaska.
George had a love for the land, and being on the farm is where he experienced the most happiness. In his younger years, he was a member of the Whipper Snappers. For a good period of his life, George played the drums for Charlie’s Concertina Band.
He served on the board of directors for the Waconia Farm Supply and Laketown Fire Insurance, and also belonged to Catholic Aid for his lifetime.
George was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Debra Vanderlinde; an infant daughter; sisters Bladina (Lawrence) Gast, Hattie (Joseph) Hilgers, and Clarine (Hubert) Salden; and brothers Alfred (Rosella) Vanderlinde, Joseph (Katherine) Vanderlinde, Edward (Mary) Vanderlinde, and Walter Vanderlinde.
He is survived by his loving family; wife Anna Mae “Pat” Vanderlinde; children John “Huns” (Judy) Vanderlinde of Watertown, Peggy (Neil) Dufoe of Cedar Rapids, IA, Donna (Dave) Hoese of Mayer, George Jr. (Jane) Vanderlinde of Watertown, Allen Vanderlinde of Excelsior, Kay (Mark) Farniok of Delano, Henry (Diane) Vanderlinde of Watertown, Lori (Mike) Bauer of Maple Plain, and Scott (Jennifer) Vanderlinde of Plymouth; 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Bernadine Vanderlinde of Waconia, Donald (LaVerne) Happ of Chaska, Angeline Hesse, Betty Hesse, both of Cologne; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Joseph-Quoc T. Vuong as celebrant of the Mass. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
There was visitation Friday, Sept. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, and it continued Saturday one hour prior to the Mass.
Casket bearers were Jeff Vanderlinde, Richard Poell, Rae Ann McDonnell, Brian Vanderlinde, Kevin Vanderlinde, Travis Farniok, Adam Vanderlinde, Dan Krause, and Jason Vanderlinde.
