Mildred Esther Vasek, age 91, of Silver Lake, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the Hutchinson Hospital.
She was born April 10, 1923, in Hutchinson Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Leslie and Sophie (Totusek) Dostal. Mildred was baptized Aug. 5, 1923, by the Rev. Edmund Wrbitsky, pastor of the Congregational Church of Silver Lake. She was confirmed in her faith Nov. 28, 1937, by the Rev. J.J. Yarkovsky.
Mildred became engaged to Leslie Thomas Vasek Aug. 3, 1942, and they were married June 29, 1943, at the Congregational Church of Silver Lake. Their marriage was blessed with four sons.
Mildred enjoyed baking for her grandchildren and attending many of their activities. She also enjoyed traveling and scrapbooking, and especially enjoyed her winter home in Texas for many years. Her love of music continued throughout her life as she entertained her friends at Cedar Crest and Harmony River with her keyboard.
A lifelong member of the Congregational Church of Silver Lake (Grace Bible Church), Mildred was also a member of the Degree of Honor in Silver Lake, Gideon’s Auxiliary, and the American Legion Post 141 Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sons Darrell Vasek and Gary Vasek; her parents; infant brother Harvey Dostal; brother Irwin Dostal; and sister-in-law Vera Vasek.
Mildred is survived by her children, Gerald Vasek and wife Susan, and Randall “Randy” Vasek and wife Julie, all of Silver Lake; daughter-in-law Lonna Rasmussen of Aurora, NE; grandchildren Sherilyn (Arron) Cline, Londa (Paul) Kokayko, Kimberly (Daniel) Upshaw and Jeremy (Kelly) Vasek; Jennifer (Mike) Schuette, Jill Vasek and Michael Vasek; Andrew Vasek, Alissa (Trevor) Carlson, Beau (Mariah) Vasek and Jacob Vasek; and great-grandchildren Kaelyn and Caleb Cline, Owen Vasek and Chyler Vasek, and Andrew and Josh Upshaw.
She is further survived by a sister, Dorothy (Roy) Lord; sister-in-law Loretta Dostal; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services took place Saturday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at Grace Bible Church in Silver Lake. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Visitation was Friday, Oct. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with prayer services at 7 p.m.; and continued Saturday, one hour prior to the services at the church.
Honorary casket bearers were Sherilyn Cline, Londa Kokayko, Kimberly Upshaw, Jennifer Schuette, Jill Vasek, and Alissa Carlson.
Casket bearers were Jake Vasek, Dean Dostal, Beau Vasek, Jeremy Vasek, Andrew Vasek, and Michael Vasek.
The Maresh Funeral Home, Silver Lake, assisted the family with arrangements.
