Ella Zuehl, 101

Ella Mathilda (Kroells) Zuehl, age 101, of Lester Prairie, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe.

She was born July 17, 1913, in Young America, to Jacob and Anna (Bachmann) Kroells.

Ella was baptized as an infant Aug. 17, 1913, at Church of Peace in Norwood Young America, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth May 20, 1928, at Evangelical and Reformed Church in Lester Prairie. Ella attended country school in rural Lester Prairie.

Ella was united in marriage to Roland Zuehl, May 31, 1934, by Rev. Becker at Evangelical and Reformed Church in Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Mavis, Dorothy, Wilmer, Gordon, Carol, and Shirley. Ella and Roland shared over 51 years of marriage, until Roland passed away Nov. 21, 1985.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Ella would work with her husband at the bakery and the bar which they owned through the years.

She moved many times over the years, living in St. Paul, Bloomington, Mankato, and Atwater, then to Mesa, AZ, where her husband passed away. In 1988, she moved back to Lester Prairie and recently resided at Linden Wood Apartments in Winsted. She was an active member at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Ella enjoyed puzzles, quilting, dancing, and playing cards. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Anna Bachmann; husband, Roland Zuehl; daughter-in-law, Polly Zuehl; son-in-law, Dr. John Klobe; brother, Melvin Kroells and his wife, Dorothy; sisters, Hilda Dose and her husband, Walter; Eveline Wendorf and her husband, Elroy; Marcella Trocke and her husband, William; sisters-in-law, Joyce Zuehl, Laverna Baumann, and her husband, Walter.

Ella is survived by her children, Mavis Ostlie and her husband, Junior, of Lester Prairie; Dorothy Klobe of Lester Prairie; Wilmer Zuehl of Becker; Gordon Zuehl of St. Augustine, FL; Carol Larson and her husband, Steven, of Eagan; Shirley Ferrero and her husband, Jim, of San Ramon, CA; grandchildren, Joel Ostlie and his wife, Kim; Debra Zebell and her husband, Dwaine; Brad Bruckschen and his wife, Kristi; Douglas Zuehl; Jeff Zuehl and his wife, Teresa; Gordon Zuehl Jr.; Tammy Minor; Tim Schneider and his wife, Christina; Nichole Metscher and her husband, Phil; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Delwin Zuehl of Winsted; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services took place Friday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment following at the Lester Prairie City Cemetery in Lester Prairie.

Clergy officiating was Pastor Eric Nelson, the organist was Lynn Mueller, and congregational hymns included “Amazing Grace,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” and “I’m But A Stranger Here.”

Casket bearers were Joel Ostlie, Brad Bruckschen, Jeff Zuehl, Doug Zuehl, Dan Zebell, and Derek Zebell.

Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
