Ewald J. Bettcher, 82

Ewald Junior Bettcher, age 82, of Lester Prairie, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015, at his residence, following a brief stay at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born Oct. 17, 1932, in Winsted Township, McLeod County, to Ewald and Fernadina (Terlinden) Bettcher.

Ewald was baptized Nov. 6, 1932. by the Rev. J. A. Schert. He was instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith April 14, 1946. His confirmation memory verse was John 10:27 and 28.

Ewald attended St. Peter Lutheran School.

Ewald was joined in holy marriage with Dorothy V. Winter Sept. 13, 1958, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn, by Rev. Tinge. God blessed their marriage with two children, Melody and John.

Ewald farmed with his brother-in-law, Theodore Tonn until 1970, when he became employed as a carpenter by Lester’s Incorporated, being employed there for 26 years.

In 1972, he purchased his own farm, where he raised hogs, cattle, chickens, geese, corn, and hay.

Ewald retired from Lester’s in May of 1996, to enjoy spending time on his farm.

He was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he served on numerous church boards through the years.

Ewald loved spending time with his family and friends, fishing, gardening, playing cards, listening to old tyme music, and just being on his farm.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; daughter Melody (Dan) Powers of Kasson; son John (Leslie) Bettcher of Lino Lakes; a granddaughter, Kendra Powers; and a grandson, Adam Powers; sisters Della Van Stender, Florence Klaustermeier, Carol Adams and Betty Miller; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Ewald was preceded in death by his parents, Ewald and Fernadina; and siblings Eunice Wainwright, Violet Tonn, Evangeline Fasching, Derrolla Fasching, Victor Bettcher, and Juergen Bettcher.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev.. Travis J. Loeslie officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

There was visitation Tuesday, July 7, one hour prior to the services at the church.

Casket bearers were Kevin Gutzmer, Curt Erickson, Alan Jahr, Mark Klaustermeier, Roger Fasching, and Greg Wendorff.

Douglas Bettcher, Robert Parpart, James Parpart, and Curtis Marks were honorary casket bearers.
