Mabel Dammann, 93

Mabel Lilly Martha (Miller) Dammann, age 93, of Glencoe, formerly of Lester Prairie, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, at Grand Meadows in Glencoe.

She was born Oct. 25, 1921, in rural Plato, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Dose) Miller. Mabel was baptized as an infant Nov. 6, 1921, and confirmed in her faith as a youth April 14, 1935, both by the Rev. Zwintschen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato.

Mabel attended country school in Plato.

She was united in marriage to Maynard Ellsworth Dammann Sept. 2, 1945, by the Rev. R. Ehlen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters and one son, Jane, Laurie, Kathy, Marla, and Maurice. On the day of Mabel’s funeral, she and Maynard would have shared 70 years of marriage together.

Mabel and Maynard made their home on a farm in rural Glencoe until 1982, when they moved to Lester Prairie.

In June of 2014, they moved to Grand Meadows in Glencoe.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Mabel was a homemaker and farm wife.

An active member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Mabel taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was secretary and president of the ladies aid, and also a delegate for church conventions. In 1973, she was the delegate for the Hutchinson Zone and went to Mobile, AL.

Mabel then joined St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, where she was also a member of the LWML, and was secretary and Christian growth delegate to Concordia College in St. Paul.

Mabel loved attending and helping at church. She enjoyed making quilts, dish towels and afghans, gardening, baking, and canning. She cherished the time spent with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mabel is survived by her husband, Maynard Dammann of Glencoe; daughters, Jane Dietel and her husband, Dale, of Lester Prairie, Laurie Griesmann and her husband, Guy, of Oronoco, Kathy Baumann and her husband, David, and Marla Birkholz and her husband, Gordon, all of Lester Prairie; and son, Maurice Dammann and his wife, Christine, of Lester Prairie.

She is further survived by her grandchildren, Steven Dietel and his wife, Melissa; Michael Dietel and his wife, Jessica; Erin Herrmann and her husband, Matt; Sara Schmidt and her husband, Anton; Daniel Griesmann; Jeana Griesemann; Angela Ferrara and her husband, Russ; Michelle Baumann; Brian Baumann and his wife, Amber; Jennifer Schmidt and her husband, Warren; Melissa Mochinski and her husband, Jacob; Kelli Fischl and her husband, Taz; Travis Dammann and his wife, Ali; Cory Dammann; and Taylor Kriz; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition, Mabel is survived by two sisters, Esther Wroge, and Elsa Selchow and her husband, Carl, all of Glencoe; sister-in-law Barbara Dammann of Lester Prairie; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Emma Miller; brother, Helmuth Miller and his wife, Alice; and brothers-in-law Herbert Wroge, and Milan Dammann.

Funeral services took place Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Eric Nelson officiated, and organist was Lynn Mueller. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “ I Know That My Redeemer Lives.”

There was visitation Tuesday, Sept. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, and visitation continued Friday one hour prior to the services.

Casket bearers were Steven Dietel, Michael Dietel, Daniel Griesmann, Brian Baumann, Travis Dammann, Cory Dammann, and Benjamin Baumann.

Arrangements were with Paul-McBride Chapel in Lester Prairie.
