Vernon James Diethelm, age 79, of Delano, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
There will be visitation Sunday, Jan. 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church, with a rosary service at 4 p.m.; and visitation will continue Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Martha’s Hall, prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to CentraCare Hospice are preferred by the family.
Arrangements are with the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, Minnesota.
Vern was born Dec. 22, 1936, in Minneapolis, to Bernard and Louise (Boll) Diethelm of Victoria.
He served in the US Army from March 1960 to April 1962, earning the rank of SP4.
Vern was united in marriage to Karole Popp May 3, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice.
A master cabinet maker and finish carpenter, Vern enjoyed crafting furniture and constructing cabinetry, and was a loyal Vikings and Twins fan.
He will be remembered for his hard work, generous nature, and the deep love he had for his wife and children, family, and friends.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fr. Louis Diethelm, OFM; a sister, Sr. Rolaine Diethelm, OSB; and his wife, Karole.
He is survived by his children Ann (Brian) Scheinost, Amy (Dennis) Edholm, and James Diethelm; grandchildren Jacob and Nathan Edholm, and Jackson and Bennett Scheinost; a sister, Julene Vogel; a brother, Roger Diethelm; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
