Dorothy Gertrude Getz, age 80, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at the Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home.
A memorial service will take place Friday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, followed by interment in Bohemian National Cemetery in Silver Lake. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.
Dorothy was born July 5, 1934, in New Germany, the daughter of Otto and Mathilda (Narjes) Goede. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in New Germany.
As a child, Dorothy attended various country grade schools, St. John’s Parochial School in Young America, and St. Mark’s Lutheran School in New Germany. She was a graduate of the Norwood Young America High School class of 1952.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Harvey Getz May 2, 1953, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with five children; three daughters and two sons.
Dorothy and Harvey resided in Hutchinson most of their married life. They shared 59 years of marriage, until Harvey passed away Sept. 5, 2012.
Dorothy was employed by Renco Fiberglass, Fingerhut, and The Harbor at Peace Village Nursing Home in Norwood Young America. She later was employed by the 3M Company in Hutchinson for 22 years. retiring in 1996.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Dorothy was also a member of Hutchinson VFW Auxiliary Post 906, Hutchinson American Legion Auxiliary Post 96, and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking, fishing, sewing, canning, and tending to her gardens. She also enjoyed camping with their motorhome.
She especially cherished spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Deborah Kahle, Dennis Getz and his fiancée, Holly Setter, Darla Harrier and her husband, Rick. David Getz and his wife, Julie, all of Hutchinson, and Deedra Vejrosta and her husband, Terry of Silver Lake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Ed Goede and his wife, Delores of Silver Lake, Gerald Geode and his wife, LeAnn of New Germany, and Ronald Goede and his wife, Luann of Waverly; sisters Sandra Goede of Howard Lake, and Marlene Olsen and her husband, Gene of Hutchinson; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Harvey, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Mathilda Goede; parents-in-law, Frank Sr. and Anna Getz; sisters Frances Rolf and her husband, Martin, and Alice Johnson and her husband, Bud; brothers-in-law Frank Jr. Getz and his wife, Marie, Harry Getz, Joseph Getz, Clarence Seller and his wife, Bessie, and John Getz and his wife, Jan; sisters-in-law Linda Goede, and Helen Patrias and her husband, Alphonse; and a nephew, Dean Seller.
