Eva I. Glessing, 91

Eva I. Glessing, age 91, of rural Waverly, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake.

Her funeral service will be Monday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with the Rev. Michael Nirva officiating. Special music will be provided by the LWML choir. Interment will follow at the Howard Lake Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, May 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Honorary casket bearers will be Katherine and Alex Hills, and Wyatt, Mason, Tanner and Cora Glessing.

Casket bearers will be Rollie Glessing, Neal Glessing, Dick Glessing, Jim Dehnbostel, Dennis Butterfass, and Roger Handrich.

Eva was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Victor Township, Wright County, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Krauel) Dehnbostel.

She was baptized Oct. 14, 1923, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen; instructed in the Lutheran Catechism, and confirmed in the Christian faith May 3, 1936, by the Rev. C.G. Seltz at the same church. Her Confirmation memory verse was Rev. 2:10.

Eva and Maurice Glessing were joined in holy marriage June 2, 1945, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. God blessed their marriage with a son, Allen.

Eva and Maurice dairy farmed in Victor Township, Wright County.

Eva was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, where she taught Sunday school for 17 years, and belonged to Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML).

Eva served as an adult leader in the Sunrise 4-H Club. She was a talented cake decorator, baking many wedding cakes through the years. She also enjoyed hosting Memorial Day picnics on the farm. Visitors were always welcomed with a sweet treat. Eva loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much!

She is survived by her son, Allen H. (Sharon) Glessing of Waverly; grandchildren Nicole Hills of Monticello, and Daniel (Seena) Glessing of Waverly; six great-grandchildren: Katherine and Alex Hills, and Wyatt, Mason, Tanner and Cora Glessing; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lorren (Jeanne) Glessing of Howard Lake; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Eva was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice F. Glessing; her parents, Henry and Emma Dehnbostel; brothers William and Walter Dehnbostel; and sisters Edna Butterfass and Esther Lorentz.
