Thelma A. Hanno Obituary – 8/16/2015


Thelma A. Hanno, age 101, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Cokato, passed away Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015.

A celebration of Thelma’s long life will take place Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Chapel, 5125 W. Broadway Ave., Crystal, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Cokato Finnish Cemetery.

Thelma was born in Annandale, to Lydia and Jacob Ojala.

She married J. Arvid Hanno in September 1933, and the couple raised their two daughters on a farm near Cokato.

The family moved to Minneapolis in 1954. The door was always open, welcoming family and friends with a promise of hot coffee, fresh-baked cake, and plenty of conversation.

Thelma enjoyed music, gardening, and landscape painting. She and Arvid traveled throughout the country to see the wonders of our land.

Arvid, Thelma’s beloved husband, passed away in 1986.

In 2006, Thelma moved to Phoenix to be with family.

In addition to her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; newborn twin boy and girl; son-in-law Harv Mielke; eight sisters; and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Mielke and Marla Hanno (Kevin Elfering); five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
