James Lawrence Obituary – 9/28/2015


James “Jim” Gilbert Lawrence, age 73, of Hutchinson, passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, with visitation two hours prior to the Mass at the church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Jim was born Oct. 30, 1941, in South St. Paul, to Gilbert and Evelyn (Swendra) Lawrence. He moved with his family to Silver Lake.

Jim married Joan Urban May 21, 1966, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake.

Jim was a semi truck driver for Littfin Truss for 25 years. After his retirement, he continued to drive for his son-in-law, David.

Jim and Joan enjoyed camping with their family, especially with their four granddaughters.

Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and loved to work on classic cars, most recently his ’66 Chevy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Evelyn Lawrence; father- and mother-in-law, Charles and Ruby Urban; niece Gwen Campbell; nephew Rich Mallak; and brothers-in-law Robert Urban, Ron Booth, and Roger Mallak.

Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan Lawrence; children, Robert (Jeanne) Lawrence, and Tammy (David) Pokornowski; granddaughters, Ashley, Allison, Emily and Katlyn; brothers Gordon (Patty) Lawrence, and Tom Lawrence; and sisters, Sharon Booth, Kathy (Harvey) Dvorak, and Susie (Dave) Knoll.
