Gladys E. Luebke, 87

Gladys E. Luebke, age 87, of Mayer, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Auburn Meadows in Waconia.

Gladys was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Camden Township, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Oltmann) Smith. She was baptized Sept. 18, 1927, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Young America by the Rev. M.F. Abraham; and confirmed Sept. 11, 1942, at the same church by the Rev. W.P. Kramer.

Gladys was united in marriage to Elmer F. Luebke June 17, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. Robert Heyne.

Gladys graduated from Central High School in Norwood, class of 1946. She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at Nagel Hospital in Waconia.

She took care of her relatives and friends when they needed help; Gladys had a huge heart.

She was a very active member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church Ladies Aid (LWML) for several years.

Gladys thoroughly enjoyed taking care of and raising her grandchildren. She loved being on the farm, helping out with whatever needed to be done, and it brought a lot of joy to her life.

Gladys loved her dog, Tonna, and the many cats and birds she fed on the farm.

While living at Auburn Meadows, Gladys treasured the many trips that she went on, and really loved the caretakers there.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; parents George and Gertrude Smith; sister Lois Ann Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law Otto and Ida Luebke; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vernon and Florence Guetzkow; and nieces Janice Schafer, and Karen (Dale) Hamann.

Gladys is survived by her loving family; daughter Linda (and Don) Williams of Parker, CO; son Mark (and Jean) Luebke of Mayer; grandchildren Brian Luebke, Jennifer Williams, Melissa (Craig) Fitzsimmons, Zachary (Michelle) Luebke, Tracy (Robin) Sundling, and Brad (Dara) Williams; great-grandchildren Bennett Fitzsimmons, Justin, Matthew, Bryttaney, Kamryn, Anthony, Rebecca; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Tuesday March 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiating; followed by interment in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Monday, March 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.; and continued Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gladys’ grandchildren were her casket bearers.
