Gladys O. Luedke, 96

Gladys O. Luedke, age 96, of Park Rapids, formerly of New Germany, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at Diamond Willow in Park Rapids.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township (intersection of Highway 7 and County Road 33), New Germany, with the Rev. Dean Mahlum officiating. Tyler Luedke will serve as urn bearer. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gladys was born Dec. 20, 1918, in Young America Township of Carver County, the daughter of William and Louise (Guetzkow) Roepke. She was baptized Jan. 19, 1919, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Young America by the Rev. Baumhoefner; and confirmed in the faith April 9, 1933, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township by the Rev. W.L. Ernst.

Gladys was united in marriage to Fred H. Luedke Oct. 12, 1937, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township by the Rev. W.L. Ernst.

Gladys and Fred farmed most of the lives, and after retirement, Gladys worked at Tonka Toys.

In 2002, Gladys moved to Park Rapids to be closer to her family.

She enjoyed her travels up north and time spent on the lake fishing. Gladys loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her easy-going and loving personality.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Luedke; parents William and Louise Roepke; great-grandchild Casey Luedke; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Cordella and Carl Lemmerman, Louella and Wallace Hecksel, Clarence and Adeline Luedke, Rueben and Verna Luedke, Edwin and Erna Luedke, Herbert Luedke, Raymond Luedke, and Walter Narr.

She is survived by her loving family: son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Shirley Luedke of Park Rapids; grandchildren Lori Ann (Russel) Schurmann of Watertown, David (Tammy) Luedke of Park Rapids, and Bradley (Pamela) Luedke of Mayer; great-grandchildren Jeremy Schurmann (special friend Lindsey), Hannah (Aaron) Hulke, Tyler Luedke (fiancée Kara), Ashley (Jerrod) Wilk, Trevor Luedke (special friend Alyssa), Austin Luedke (special friend Cassie), and McKenna Luedke; great-great-grandchildren Kayla Wilk, Kayzlin Wilk, and Jace Wilk; step-grandchildren Carrissa Mikish, and Kendra Mikish; and step great-grandchildren Ryley and Blaze.

She is further survived by a sister, Inez Hahn of Watertown; sister-in-law Doris Luedke of Winsted; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
