Marvanna Machemehl, 87

Marvanna O. Machemehl, age 87, of Winsted, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center.

She was born June 7, 1927, in Hollywood Township, New Germany, the daughter of Reuben and Anna (Ehmke) Stender.

Marvanna was baptized July 3, 1927, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp. by the Rev. W.L. Ernst; and confirmed in the faith March 17, 1940, by the same.

Marvanna was united in marriage to Louis W. Machemehl Sept. 30, 1948, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Twp. by the Rev. W.L. Ernst.

A true homemaker and farm wife, Marvanna loved her children and grandchildren dearly, always there for them when anyone needed anything. She enjoyed traveling, flowers, gardening and baking; and was well-known for her famous coffee bread.

Marvanna was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted, and a former member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. She served the LWML (ladies aid) for 45 years, was a member of the church choir, Christian Growth Choir, an altar guild chairperson, president of the altar guild, treasurer, vice president, and a two-time delegate to the LWML convention.

During her retirement years, Marvanna volunteered at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia for 14 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Machemehl; grandson Baby Hafemann; father and monther, Reuben and Anna Stender; brother Norman Stender; father-in-law and mother-in-law Conrad and Elsie Machemehl; step mother-in-law Mildred Machemehl; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marlys Stender, Arden Gutzmann, Irma and Bill Smith, Earl and Betty Machemehl, and Wally Dibb.

Marvanna is survived by her loving family; children Joel (Cindy) Machemehl of Lester Prairie, Jeff (Linda) Machemehl of St. Bonifacius, Jayne Machemehl of Hutchinson, Julie (Doug) Hafemann of New Germany, Jim (Kelly) Machemehl of Victoria, and Jonn (Annette) Machemehl of St. Bonifacius; grandchildren Jason (Jeana) Machemehl, Laura Machemehl and fiancé Karl Struck, Lacey Machemehl, Reid Hafemann, Kim Hafemann, Brittany (Anthony) Puckett, Connor Machemehl, Allison Machemehl, and Morgan Machemehl; and a great-granddaughter, Elise.

She is further survived by a brother, Ronald Stender of Winsted; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley Dibb of Lester Prairie, Ralph and Donna Machemehl, and DellaVan Stender, all of Lester Prairie; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Friday, April 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Revs. Mark Loder and Travis Loeslie officiating, followed by interment in the church cemetery. Jason Machemehl was the cross bearer.

Casket bearers were Joel Machemehl, Jeff Machemehl, Jim Machemehl, Jonn Machemehl, Connor Machemehl, and Reid Hafemann.

There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
