Irene J. Nemec Obituary – 8/30/2015


Irene Josephine Nemec, age 89, of Silver Lake, passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.

Irene was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Emil and Sylvia (Wosmek) Stibal.

She attended school in Rich Valley Township until the eighth grade.

Irene was joined in holy marriage with George Nemec June 26, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with a son, Steve.

Irene and George engaged in livestock and crop farming for many years. Irene also helped at the Sumter Mutual Insurance Company.

She was also formerly employed at 3M for 33 years.

Irene enjoyed crafts, cake decorating, gardening, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe.

Irene is survived by a grandson, Brian Nemec of Silver Lake and special friend Shelly Humlicek; a granddaughter, Ann Janning of Hutchinson and special friend Tony Olson; great-grandchildren: Kayla Nemec and friend Taylor Broderius, Brianna Nemec and friend Tyler Donnay, Leah Nemec and Mitchell Johnson; Taylor Janning and friend Daniel Probst, and Nathan Janning; Steve’s fiancée, Pam Wendlandt; sisters-in-law Arlene Wendolek, Shirley Nemec, and Margaret Nemec; a brother-in-law: Bob Villnow; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Nemec; her son, Steve Nemec; her parents; and by a brother, Ray (Mabel) Stibal.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, Sept. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe, with Father Tony Stubeda as the celebrant. Interment was in Glencoe Catholic Cemetery

Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with a rosary recited at 6:45 p.m., and parish prayers at 7 p.m. There was further visitation Friday morning at the church, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Casket bearers were Mark Wendolek, Dean Wendolek, John Vacek, Joe Schauer, Bill Schauer, and Mike Schauer.
