Barbara A. Poppler, age 72, of Watertown, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015, at her home.
She was born Jan. 24, 1943, in Waconia, the daughter of Carl and Cordelia (Ehalt) Rosckes. Barbara was baptized at St. Victoria Catholic Church in Victoria, and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
She was united in marriage to Charles F. Poppler Oct. 5, 1963, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
Barb enjoyed dancing polka with her husband and best friend of 51 years, gardening, mowing lawn, cooking, sewing, playing cards, being active in the community, and raising her five daughters, who she blessed with her wisdom, strength, and grace.
She treasured being her husband’s dedicated partner in farming, was Carver County Farm Wife of the Year in 1997, and active in FFA and 4H.
Barbara’s unwavering faith in God gave her a life well lived. She loved music and expressed this love by playing piano and accordion. Also, Barb had a soft spot for all animals, especially German shepherd dogs, and cats, specifically one named Tinker Bell.
Barb had a big heart, and cherished the moments she spent around her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Carl and Cordelia Rosckes; and a brother, Jerome Rosckes.
Barbara is survived by her loving family: husband Charles “Charlie” Poppler; daughters and sons-in-law Carol “Tutie” and Mike Wren of Waverly, Denise “Neise” and Lee Norman of Maple Grove, Annette “Nettie” and Bob Elwood of Stevens Point, WI, Tracy and Jim Mortenson of Sauk Rapids, and Janelle “Nellie” and Nathan Kellermann of Arlington; grandchildren Christine Wren, Brandon Wren and fiancée Tara Floyd, Aubrey Wren, Charles Wren, Jessica Norman, Andrew Norman, Jocelyn Norman, Maya Elwood, Aidan Elwood, Steven Poppler, Camerae Kellermann, Chloey Kellermann, and Noah Kellermann; step-grandson Tristen Mortenson; and step-great-grandson Gus Faught.
She is further survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Vernon and Elaine Rosckes of Watertown, and Ralph and June Rosckes of Waconia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Frances Schmieg of Waconia, Marcella “Sally” Eder of Waconia, Laura Schroeder of Cologne, Gerald and Geraldine Poppler of Chaska, Arlene Poppler of Florida, Merlin Quast of Chaska, Eugene Meuwissen of Chaska, Barb and Bob Larson of Minneapolis, Sister Mary Ann Poppler SCC of Il, and Leander and Chrys Poppler of Bloomington; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Joseph Fink as Celebrant of the Mass. Interment will be at a later date in the church cemetery.
There was visitation Thursday, June 18 from 4 to 8 p.m., and Friday, one hour prior to the Mass, all at the church.
Casket bearers were Brandon Wren, Charles Wren, Andrew Norman, Aidan Elwood, Steven Poppler, Noah Kellermann, and Tristen Mortenson.
