Kenneth L. Rusch, 76

Kenneth LeRoy Rusch, age 76, of Dassel, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015, at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley, after a long illness.

He was born Nov. 19, 1938, in Hutchinson, the son of Albert and Elsie (Ewald) Rusch. Ken was baptized as an infant Dec. 11, 1938, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth April 6, 1952, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Ken received his education in Hutchinson, and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School class of 1956.

He entered active military service in the United States Marine Corps July 9, 1956, in Minneapolis, and served his country during peacetime. Ken received an honorable discharge July 8, 1962, at the Marine Corps Base in Palms, CA, with the rank of Private.

He also served in the Minnesota Army National Guard in Hutchinson, and the Army Reserves at Camp Ripley in Little Falls.

Ken was united in marriage to Jolene (Kubesh) Mackedanz May 7, 1983, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Ken and Jolene resided in Dassel. They shared 32 years of marriage with love, fun, and happy memories.

Ken was employed at the State of Minnesota DNR for 33 years; 30 of those years were with the DNR in Hutchinson, and three years in Little Falls. He was also an Army Reserve instructor for 20 years. He retired in 1997.

As a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, Ken served as an usher.

He was also a member on the planning commission in Dassel.

Ken was a lifetime member of the Hutchinson American Legion Post 96, the Hutchinson VFW Post 906, the Hutchinson Disabled American Veteran (DAV), Chapter 37; and the Hutchinson 40 & 8, where he was Chef De Gare.

Ken enjoyed traveling and going on trips. He was an avid sports fan of hockey, baseball, football, and basketball. He also loved to read and meet his buddies for coffee.

In his younger years, Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.

He loved and enjoyed life! Ken especially cherished spending time with his family, son Chad, and friends, which meant everything to him.

Ken is survived by his wife, Jolene Rusch of Dassel; son Chad Mackedanz of Dassel; sister-in-law Mary Bacon of Willmar; brother-in-law Pete Kubesh and his wife, Karen of Maplewood; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elsie Rusch; sister Burnette Seller; mother-in-law Gladys Kubesh; and a nephew, Joseph Seller.

Funeral services took place Friday, May 29 at 11 a.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, with interment at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Hutchinson. The Revs. Steve Olson and John Peterson officiated at the service. Lynda Peterson was the organist. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “Onward Christian Soliders,” “Amazing Grace,” and “The Marine Corps Hymn.” Military honors were provided by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad.

There was visitation Thursday, May 28 from 5 to 8 p.m., and Friday from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson. Visitation continued at the church one hour prior to the service.

Casket bearers were Jerry Block, Larry Koepp, Ray Youngkrantz, Norm Bohn, Dave Sangren, Larry Pederson, Rick Krueger, Robert Rolander, Dwight Freitag, and Bob Polzin.

Arrangements were with the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel of Hutchinson.
