Daniel D. Schmieg Obituary – 10/26/2015


Daniel Dalles Schmieg, age 57, of Papillion, NE, and formerly Victoria, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at his home in Nebraska.

He was born Dec. 5, 1957, in Shakopee, the son of Sylvester and Dorleen (Notermann) Schmieg.

Daniel grew up in Victoria, and was a 1976 graduate of the Chaska High School. He attended Mankato State University, where he earned a degree in computer science.

Daniel enlisted in the United States Air Force. Working in technology, he was stationed in Germany, Washington DC, Missouri, and Nebraska. He also served on the Presidential Advance Team during the term of President Clinton.

A very generous person, Daniel would offer help whenever needed. He enjoyed traveling and taking photographs, and was a wonderful host when someone traveled to visit him.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Schmid.

Daniel is survived by his loving family: parents Sylvester and Dorleen Schmieg of Waconia; brothers and sisters Donna (Bob) Lubbers of Chanhassen, Duane (Marilyn) Schmieg of Chaska, Debbie (Mark) Worm of Montgomery, Doug (Brenda) Schmieg of Victoria, Denise (Jerry) Fedie of Chanhassen, Dean Schmieg of Carver, Delbert (Heidi) Schmieg of Winsted, Dion (Kathi) Schmieg of Carver, Dawn (Chris) Dammann, Daryl (Trina) Schmieg, all of Victoria, Dana (Tasha) Schmieg of Cologne, and David (Jael) Schmieg of Glencoe; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

A memorial service took place Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with Chaplain Helmar Heckel as officiant. There was visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
