Lucille Marlyce Jane Semke, age 85, of Cokato, passed away at Cokato Manor Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, after a very brief stay.
She was born June 23, 1930, at Knapp, MN, to Gustav and Theresia (Larson) Rhode, the youngest of five girls: Helen, Inez, Evelyn and Eleanore.
Lucille grew up on a farm at Knapp. She was baptized and confirmed at the North Crow River Lutheran Church, and attended country school at Knapp.
Lucille was united in marriage to Edward Otto Fred Semke Oct. 15, 1949, and they were married for 47 years. Ed passed away in December 1996.
Lucille continued to live on their farm in Stockholm Township until very recently. She loved the country life and thought there was no better place to live and raise their four children.
Lucille enjoyed her flower gardens and shared them with many friends and relatives. She also loved baking, music, theater, drives around the countryside, and spending time with friends, family, and grandchildren.
She was proud of her 100 percent Swedish heritage, and was able to travel to Sweden to visit her relatives.
Lucille worked for a time at the Buffalo nursing home, and eventually retired from CTS Corporation after more than 27 years.
She is survived by her children: Bruce (Carol) Semke of Cokato, Nancy Zwicke of Naples, FL, Juliane (Max) Tisch of Chanhassen, and Brian (Deborah) Semke of Chanhassen; grandchildren: Stephanie (Ryan) Donnelly of St. Paul, Angie (Joe) Johnston of Buffalo, Brianna Tisch, and Brandon Semke, both of Chanhassen; and great-grandchildren Isabelle and Emma Donnelly of St. Paul, and Evelyn of Buffalo.
A memorial service took place Sunday, Sept. 20 at 5 p.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Dassel, with interment at Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Cokato.
