Troy D. Sherrer Obituary – 6/10/2015


Troy Douglas Sherrer, age 38, of Alaska, formerly of Howard Lake and Delano, passed away from liver disease and kidney failure Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, AK, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born Sept. 22, 1976, at St Mary’s Hospital in Winsted, to Douglas and Gail (Glessing) Sherrer.

In August of 1979, he was baptized at St James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, along with his two sisters, Tracy and Crystal.

Troy married Susie Nickoli June 9, 2015, in a spiritual ceremony at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, AK.

Raised in McGrath, AK, Troy, Troy Boy, Trucky, or Chilly Willy was happiest in a cabin in the middle of the woods with his dogs by his side. He loved being a part of nature. Whether it was mining for gold, mushing dogs, driving snow machines, or just sitting and enjoying the view, the woods was where Troy wanted to be.

From 1991 to 1995, Troy lived in Delano with his family, where he enjoyed playing high school basketball with the Delano Tigers.

Troy’s love of the guitar and his talent for art work have been spread across the country. His love for animals, especially dogs, has provided countless people with their favorite four-legged friends.

Troy’s smile was infectious, his laugh, contagious. He was known for his big heart, putting his own plans on hold to help out a friend.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Hayward Sherrer of Picayune, MS, Lloyd Glessing of Howard Lake, and Gladys Glessing Stolka of Delano; uncle Mike Sherrer of Panama City, Panama; and his best four-legged friend, Loca.

Troy is survived by his spiritual wife, Susie Nickoli; parents Doug and Gail Sherrer of Fairbanks, AK; sisters Tracy Sherrer of Vallejo, CA, and Crystal (Chris) Bailey of Portland, OR; grandfather Edward Stolka of Waverly; grandmother Agnes Sherrer of Vallejo, CA; aunts and uncles Bernard and Denise Dyreson of Delano, and Dennis and Vicky Glessing of Howard Lake; nephews Brenden Silva of Vacaville, CA, and Powers Bailey of Portland, OR; cousins Jared Glessing and Jessica Glessing (Jake Krueger) of Howard Lake; and countless other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life took place Sunday, June 14 at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage, AK.

A second Celebration of Life took place Monday, June 15 at the Community Center in McGrath, AK. Inurnment followed Tuesday, June 16 in McGrath, AK.
