Gene E. Streachek Obituary – 1/31/2015


Gene E. Streachek, age 80, of rural Glencoe, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at Glencoe Long Term Care.

He was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Silver Lake, the son of Edward and Alice (Matousek) Streachek.

Gene graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1951.

He was joined in holy marriage with Marion Kuntz April 11, 1982.

Gene engaged in farming in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County, for many years.

He was a musician from the age of 14. Through the years, Gene played trumpet for Jerry Dostal, Babe Wagner, Rollie Wickman, The Jolly Czechs, and The Second Addition. He also was on KDUZ Radio for nearly 20 years.

Gene was a faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Glencoe, and to The Color Guard of American Legion Post 141 in Silver Lake.

Gene loved his family!

He is survived by his wife, Marion; children: Sheri (Tony Repesh) Streachek, Scott (Annette) Streachek, Jodee Streachek, Lisa Streachek, Debbie Bahr and LeRoy (Wendy) Kuntz; 13 grandchildren: Shelby, Sydney, Seth, Shanie, Samson, Simon, Saul and Selah Streachek; Chris (Anita) Bahr, Angie (Keith) Christen, Jenny Bahr and fiancé Leighton Enz; and Jacob and Hannah Kuntz; and six great-grandchildren.

Gene is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Audrey Brueggemeier, Floyd (Betty) Kuntz, Pat Kuntz, Lyle (Lavonne) Kuntz, Delphine (Clifford) Zellman, Ilene (Charles) Dietzel and Cherilyn (Jim) Luke; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a son-in-law, Dave Bahr; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Lydia Brueggemeier; and brothers-in-law Gilbert Brueggemeier and Alfred Kuntz.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe with Father Tony Stubeda as the celebrant. Military rites were performed by American Legion Post 141. Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Silver Lake.

Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake; and continued Wednesday, one hour prior to the Mass at the church.

Honorary casket bearers were Chris Bahr, Angie Christen, Jenny Bahr, and Jacob and Hannah Kuntz.

Casket bearers were Shelby, Sydney, Seth, Shanie, Samson, Simon, Saul and Selah Streachek.
