Oliver Henry Westrum Obituary – 5/3/2015


Oliver Henry Westrum, age 87, of Buffalo, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015.

Ollie was born June 20, 1927, to Hannah and John Westrum.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball.

Ollie joined the Navy at 17, and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.

He played fast pitch softball for his employer, Soo Line Railroad, and won several championships.

Ollie loved his family, Hamm’s beer, a rum and Coke, and hunting and fishing at his lake homes in Aitkin and Park Rapids. As an avid Vikings fan, he watched many games in the snow at the old Met. He loved to watch his sons play hockey for Breck, and his daughter ride in horse shows.

A lady’s man to the end, Ollie was loved by his Cottagewood (Buffalo) “girlfriends:” Aileen, Joy, Betty, Lexi, Jessica, Chelsea, Haley, Alyssa, Fran, Maura, Leila, Kit, Autum, Sherri, Andrea, Tahnee and Makayla.

Cheerful, he kept his sense of humor to the end.

Ollie was preceded in death by a sister, Esther; brother John (Bud); first wife Martha; second wife Audrey; and brother-in-law Tony Koval.

He is survived by his sons, Dave (Simona), and Dan (Micki); daughter Joy; grandsons PFC Jacob and LCPL Luke (USMCR); and relatives Tony, Ron (Jackie) and Cindy (Chris).

A memorial service took place Friday, May 8, at noon at Cassel Cemetery in Delano.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
