Irene M. Young, age 85, of Buffalo, formerly of Rockford, passed away Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at the Buffalo Hospital.
She was born July 11, 1929, in Garden City, SD, the daughter of John and Evelyn (Bachman) Alt.
Irene and Lester J. Young were joined in marriage July 26, 1949, in Waubay, SD. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Irene was formerly employed at the Rockford Bakery, Rockford School, and the Delano Nursing Home.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, rug making, sewing, bird watching, and cooking.
Irene was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Rockford.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Lester J. Young; children: Dale “Bucky” Young, Doug (Teresa) Young, all of Rockford; David (Cheryl) Young, and Lori (Gary) Kottke, all of St. Michael; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers and a sister: Dean Alt of San Diego, CA, Marvin (Jean) Alt of Sterling, IL, Arthur (Marge) Alt of Maple Plain, and Janet “Donnie” Scott of Watertown, SD; and other relatives and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn Alt; three sisters: Joanne, Bonnie, and Betty; and by a sister-in-law, Kathy.
Funeral services took place Saturday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Rockford. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford.
Visitation was Friday, Jan. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, and continued Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Honorary casket bearers were Bridget Kottke and Tabitha Phillips.
Casket bearers were Wayne Young, Dustin Kottke, Cory Young, Justin Phillips, Tony Underwood, and Gary Kottke.
