Lenore Bernice Zellman, 96

Lenore Bernice Zellman, age 96, of Waconia, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center.

A memorial service will take place Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 at West Union Lutheran Church of Cologne, with visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Arrangements are with Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cokato.

Lenore was born May 19, 1919, to Otto F. and Alma (Pehrson) Zellmann in Hancock Township, Carver County. She was confirmed at West Union Lutheran Church Nov. 27, 1932, by the Rev. Miller.

Lenore attended District 24 School for eight years, and then Belle Plaine High School for four years, graduating from Belle Plaine High School May 29, 1936. She worked at Gotha Store during high school.

After graduation, Lenore moved to St. Paul and worked at The Emporium department store as a lingerie buyer, and made several trips each year to New York to see the fashions and order the new merchandise for the store. After the Emporium closed, she was a buyer of accessories for The House of Large Sizes, which is ironic as she was a little lady.

After retirement, Lenore moved to Cokato to help care for her mother. She became a volunteer driver and the volunteer coordinator for Wright County.

In June 2010, Lenore moved to Westview Acres Senior Living in Waconia to be closer to family. In May 2015, after a fall, she moved to Waconia Good Samaritan Care Center.

Lenore enjoyed her nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She sent cards for everyone’s birthday, and gave books to the younger generation at Christmas.

Lenore was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Burton (as a small child); brother and sister-in-law Leslie and Mildred Zellmann; and nephews and nieces: Leon and Susie Zellmann, Lance Zellmann, and Lois Zellman.

Lenore is survived by niece Diane (Don) Koepp of Belle Plaine; nephews and spouses: Lowell (Diane) Zellmann of New Ulm, LuAnn Zellmann of St.Cloud, Layton (Linda) Zellman of Chanhassen, Larry Zellman of Belle Plaine, Les (Kristi) Zellmann of St. James, and Loren (Brenda) Zellman of Savage; 20 great nieces and nephews; and 34 great-great nieces and nephews.
